The tour officially commences at Mexico City Hotel Zocalo Central 12:00 PM on Day 1.
For added convenience and peace of mind, consider arriving a day early to allow for any travel delays. If arriving on Day 1, ensure your flight lands no later than 10:00 AM to meet your tour leader and group at the Hotel lobby at 12:00 PM. We highly recommend staying at the Hotel Zocalo Central on Day 0.
We would be happy to assist you with booking this extra night. If you arrive early on that day, you’re welcome to speak with your tour leader about arranging a half-day tour to visit Chapultepec Castle, the Anthropology Museum, or any other place of interest in Mexico City.
Day 1
Mexico City Exploration
October 26th
At 12:00 PM, meet Roman, your tour leader, at Hotel Lobby then head to Zócalo Plaza for views of the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace, and Templo Mayor, tour the Metropolitan Cathedral and visit Templo Mayor Museum to see Aztec ruins, grab a taco snack at Taquería Los Cocuyos, admire the Palacio Postal for its ornate architecture, visit Palacio de Bellas Artes for art deco design and murals, enjoy lunch at Mercado de San Juan with diverse Mexican foods, stroll through Alameda Central Park for a relaxing break, stop by Dulcería de Celaya for traditional Mexican sweets and grab some churros too. Have dinner at Restaurante Azul Historico enjoy unmissable dishes of Mexican cuisine and the history of Azul restaurants such as Panuchos de Cochinita, Manchamanteles, Fritters Stuffed with Duck bathed in Mole Negro, among many others.

Day 2
Mexico City Exploration
October 27th
After breakfast, morning visit to Frida Kahlo's former residence, followed by Museo Anahuacalli, created by artist Diego Rivera to showcase his extensive collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts. Constructed from volcanic stone, the museum blends ancient Mexican architectural styles with Rivera’s artistic vision, providing a unique cultural experience. Today, you’ll also have the chance to taste local treats around Coyoacán and enjoy a traditional Mexican lunch at a local eatery, savoring regional specialties.
In the afternoon, set off to explore the enchanting canals of Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its unique floating gardens, or chinampas. These artificial islands, created by the ancient Aztecs, showcase an ingenious agricultural system that has sustained local communities for centuries. Visiting Xochimilco offers a glimpse into this extraordinary method, where fertile, hand-built plots of land float atop the shallow lakebed, bursting with colorful flowers, vegetables, and herbs.
As you drift along the canals in a traditional trajinera boat, you’ll see how the chinampas still thrive, playing a key role in local agriculture and environmental conservation. Here, you can relax while sampling authentic snacks and refreshing local drinks, taking in the festive atmosphere with mariachis serenading from nearby boats. This vibrant, cultural experience gives you a true taste of the enduring heritage of the ancient Mexican way of life, surrounded by the beauty and history of Xochimilco.

Journey to Oaxaca with a Stop in Puebla

After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey to Oaxaca City, with a delightful lunch stop in Puebla to stretch your legs and experience the rich flavors of one of Mexico’s most celebrated culinary destinations. Savor traditional Poblano treats, renowned for their complex flavors and artisanal preparation, in a charming local eatery that showcases the essence of Puebla’s famous cuisine.
After this satisfying break, continue the drive to Oaxaca, taking in beautiful landscapes along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely stroll through Oaxaca’s vibrant streets and unwind with a rooftop sundowner, sampling Mexican snacks and drinks as you overlook the city’s stunning sunset.
*Dinner at Restaurant Tierra del Sol awaits, where you’ll indulge in authentic Mixteca cuisine crafted by chef Olga Cabrera, a perfect introduction to Oaxaca’s culinary heritage.

Exploring Oaxaca City

Embark on a culinary journey through Oaxaca’s markets with a local food expert, where you'll taste over 15 local foods and drinks from across the region, including beloved street food favorites and vibrant market fare.
As you walk, learn about Oaxaca's rich history and architectural heritage. Delight in a chocolate tasting at a family-owned chocolatier, experiencing a wide range of exquisite chocolate creations.
Next, visit Santo Domingo Church and the Museum of Oaxacan Cultures for insights into indigenous traditions. Finally, explore the community botanical garden Vives Verde, to discover local flora and sustainable practices.
End the evening with a relaxing dinner at a local restaurant, sampling classic Oaxaca dishes with a contemporary twist.

Day 5
Oaxaca, Monte Albán

Begin the day exploring the ancient ruins of Monte Albán with a private archaeologist guide, gaining insights into the history and cultural significance of this sacred Zapotec site.
For lunch, enjoy a mole-themed restaurant at a traditional hacienda, featuring Oaxaca’s famed seven mole sauces alongside handmade tortillas and refreshing aguas frescas.
In the afternoon, visit the artisan village of San Martín Tilcajete to experience the world of alebrijes at the studio of Jacobo and María Ángeles. With your fresh ingredients in hand, head to a charming kitchen to participate in an immersive cooking class with celebrated Oaxacan chef Carina Santiago. Learn regional cooking techniques as you create delicious dishes, savoring the fruits of your labor as you taste your culinary creations.
Next, visit a family-owned distillery, where you’ll delve into the fascinating mezcal production process. Discover how agave is cultivated and transformed, and enjoy a guided tasting of artisanal mezcals, including rare editions that showcase the depth of flavors unique to the region.

As evening falls, immerse yourself in the unique beauty of Día de Muertos with a visit to a local cemetery. Here, you’ll witness the Mexican celebration of life and death, surrounded by colorful flowers, glowing candles, and intricately decorated altars. Learn about the traditions and symbolism of this heartfelt celebration that honors loved ones in a vibrant and unforgettable way.

Departure from Oaxaca Airport
November 1st
After enjoying breakfast at your leisure, we can assist in arranging your transportation to the airport for departure. You have the option of returning home on November 1st or extending your stay in Oaxaca to experience even more of the vibrant Día de Muertos festivities. The streets will be alive with colorful decorations, joyful parades known as muertadas, and celebrations that honor life and remembrance.
If you’d like to extend your trip, we can help you book accommodations for an extra night, or you are welcome to make your own arrangements. Whether exploring additional destinations around Oaxaca or simply savoring the city’s festive energy on your own, your adventure can continue.
